A court case involving a well-known choreographer from the K-pop world is drawing attention this week. According to industry reports, a dancer identified only as A, who appeared on a music channel's dance competition show and worked with several popular boy groups, was sentenced to three years in prison at the first trial and taken into custody in the courtroom. The Seoul Western District Court found him guilty of assaulting an intoxicated acquaintance in March of 2024, and also ordered 80 hours of a treatment program along with a five-year employment ban at facilities related to children, teenagers, and people with disabilities. His side had pointed to a lie detector test that showed a truthful response, but the court did not treat it as a reason to doubt the victim's account. Instead, the judges focused on how his statements shifted during the investigation, including details about whether he played a computer game at the motel and the order of events that night, while finding the victim's testimony consistent and backed by objective evidence. The choreographer has appealed the ruling. So this story is not over yet.

Last week's music lineup was packed with variety, as singer Kimfield, X-Love, and Tubal, I've and Eyelit all dropped new releases. Kimfiel came back with his second full album, Journey, on October 29th, led by the title track Life is Life, a witty and honest song about accepting life as it comes while never stopping your stride. XLOV released their third mini album, I equals Exclamation Mark, on October 28th, featuring the title tracks Hush and Tutkam Chihuahua, which blend heavy bass, oriental motifs, dreamcore, and hyperpop into a wonderfully quirky sound. And to BLE followed on October 27th with sequence 02 Attraction, headlined by the tropical RB track French Kissing, while Ive and Eilet both arrived on October 26th. Ive showed off their signature confidence with the title track Looks Can Kill, and Eilet delivered a catchy electropop tune called Arresting You, complete with an addictive whistle sound that playfully captures a girl who is fed up with a lukewarm relationship.

According to his agency Big Hit Music, the video crossed that mark early on October 31st, about a year and a half after the song's release in March of last year. The hip hop RB track playfully captures the feeling of being captivated by someone irresistible. And the video adds to the fun with J-Hope's smooth, detailed choreography set inside an art museum. The song also made a global splash at launch, reaching number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 56 on the UK official singles chart, and number 27 on Spotify's weekly top songs Global. This is J-Hope's fourth solo video to hit 100 million views, following Daydream, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Killin' It Girl. And meanwhile, BTS is keeping busy on their Adirang World Tour, with stops still ahead in Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.

BTS members V and John Cook just gave fans a treat, with V posting a set of selfies on his personal social media on November 1st without any caption. The photos show the two standing side by side and looking into the camera, with V dressed in a bold red inner layer and a brown jacket, even throwing in a charming wink after a deep, smouldering stare. Right next to him, John Cook went for a relaxed and trendy look, pulling a dark hoodie over his head and flashing a playful peace sign. News sources say the duo's visuals quickly had fans around the world swooning, with many calling the pair national treasure level. The photos arrive as BTS looks ahead to the Asian leg of their tour, which kicks off on the 19th in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, following the grand finale of their South American run in Sao Paulo, Brazil last month.

Singer Roy Kim is setting the record straight about the so-called wedding song controversy involving entertainer Chiun and dancer Bata. During a recent live broadcast on his personal social media, he said he never actually promised to perform at their wedding, and that it was veteran singer Kim Jong-gook who made that promise. The buzz started after a YouTube episode of Jim Donggook, where Kim Jonggook surprised Roy Kim by bringing up a past conversation, then called Jieun directly, who playfully insisted he had agreed over a bowl of rice soup. Clips from that episode spread across online communities and left some viewers thinking, Roy Kim picks and chooses who gets a wedding song or breaks his word. He admitted the casual comments and quick judgments have been tough, saying his faith in humanity dipped, but he plans to lift it back up by looking at the fans who come to his concerts.

Industry reports say it brings together the Hongdae music bar Kopchangjong O's Space, Cosmos, and Ruby Salon, an Incheon venue that has long supported indie performances, under the label Ruby Records. The opening night features the female duo Omo and the act Running Ride Sunset, followed on the 28th by a solo show from the brother rock duo Red Sea, who won the gold prize at the Ujeha Music Contest. In December, bands like Idiots, Perfura, Salted, and Merry Heyday will join a regular lineup of two acts every Saturday. Ruby Records also plans to link the venue with its music distribution project, Label Pick, so rising artists can go from the stage to releasing their own songs.
