The Recording Academy has announced it will reconsider its controversial plan to create a new Asian pop music performance category at the Grammy Awards following BTS's boycott declaration. Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, issued a statement acknowledging that some artists feel the category doesn't properly represent their music, saying the organization takes this feedback very seriously as fellow musicians. The controversy erupted in June when the Grammys announced the new category for Asian music from Korea, China, and Japan, sparking widespread criticism that it was an attempt to sideline Asian artists from major awards like Record of the Year and Album of the Year. BTS made a powerful statement by announcing all seven members would not submit their work for consideration this year, expressing hope that music would be accepted and loved for itself, beyond regional or language boundaries. The group had been expected to be strong contenders with their fifth full album, A Ray Rang, released in March, and the Academy is now meeting with label representatives from various Asian regions to gather input on the decision.

Soaking show Summer Swag 2026 concert caused an unexpected disruption when smoke from the show's pyrotechnic effects drifted into nearby Sagic Baseball Stadium, halting a KBO League game for 19 minutes.
