SPEAKER_00We're your hosts bringing you all the hottest updates from the K-pop and K drama world.
SPEAKER_02Today is May 19th, 2026, and we've got some incredible stories to share with you.
SPEAKER_00Let's dive right in.
SPEAKER_02K-pop rapper MC Mong has sparked major controversy with explosive allegations made during a TikTok live broadcast on May 19th. He claimed that actor Kim Minjong and others attempted to pay large sums of money to women, including those in the entertainment industry, to fabricate stories about him. MC Mong also revisited his past military service controversy, insisting he never extracted healthy teeth to avoid service, and that his exemption was due to pre-existing conditions like herniated discs and ligament tears. Following the broadcast, Kim Minjon's legal team immediately denied the allegations as completely false and announced plans to pursue both civil and criminal legal action. MC Mong's TikTok account was temporarily suspended for seven days, though he claims this was due to using sensitive language rather than the content of his revelations.
SPEAKER_00Boy Group Pesekas made a powerful comeback on May 19th with their seventh mini album, Root Zero the ORA, showcasing their most intense musical evolution yet. The ten-member group participated in writing and composing all tracks on the album, with title track OK, featuring an addictive chant and even incorporating the Korean national anthem as backing vocals to promote their culture globally. Member Sumin explained they wanted to move beyond being defined by varied concepts and instead establish a stronger, more unified musical identity. The group demonstrated their growth with stable live vocals during hand-mic rap performances and intricate megacrew choreography featuring backup dancers, proving their dedication through rigorous practice sessions.
SPEAKER_02Source Music announced on May 19th that Kim visited doctors for neck discomfort and was advised to rest while monitoring her recovery progress. The injury appears related to the group's recent celebration performances, which featured intense headbanging choreography while wearing heavy hairpieces, with fans expressing concern after noticing Kim struggling during a Sung Sil University Festival performance. Kim will miss upcoming university festivals, music show appearances, and the Spotify Pure Flowers live event, with her return timeline dependent on her recovery status.
SPEAKER_00Professor Su Kyungduk, a Korean cultural promotion expert, expressed deep concern on May 19th that the drama provided ammunition for China's Northeast project by depicting Korean royalty using terms and symbols associated with Chinese vassal states. The controversy centers on scenes showing the prince wearing a nine-row crown reserved for tributary states and using the term kion's instead of proper imperial language, as well as the Chinese-style tea ceremony that differs entirely from Korean traditions. Both lead actors Ai Yu and Bion Wu Suk issued handwritten apologies, with Bayon addressing the issue again at a Netflix press conference on May 19th, stating he was sorry for the recent controversy. The drama's production team also apologized, though critics, including history instructor Choi Tai Song, argue that production companies spend millions on actor fees while skimping on historical consultation costs. The UK festival is considered one of Europe's premier music events, having previously featured headliners like Taylor Swift, Adele, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, and Olivia Rodrigo. This year's lineup includes Garth Brooks, Maroon 5, Mumford, Anne Sons, Durand Duran, and Pitbull. With IT standing shoulder to shoulder with these international acts, the group has consistently proven their global influence, becoming the first K-pop boy group to perform at Coachella in 2024, and also headlining Morocco's Maoazine Festival and Japan's Summer Sonic, with their recent world tour in your fantasy spanning 12 North American cities, three Japanese cities, and nine cities across Asia and Australia.
SPEAKER_02The album topped Circle Chart's retail album chart and Bugs Real Time Chart, while all 10 tracks dominated Japan's AWA real-time rising chart from first to 10th place. The album also reached number one on iTunes Top Albums chart in eight regions, including Chile, Poland, India, Malaysia, and the Philippines, with the title track Wild topping eight additional regional charts. Taiong produced the entire album himself, showcasing his expanded musical identity through a hip-hop title track inspired by the instinctive movements of wild animals, featuring powerful rapping and explosive vocals over an addictive rhythm.
SPEAKER_00The robber who broke into actress Nana's home has been sentenced to ten years in prison by prosecutors on May 19th. The perpetrator, identified as Mr. A, is charged with armed robbery after threatening Nana and her mother with a weapon and demanding valuables at their Guri City residence in November of last year. During the incident, Nana and her mother fought back and subdued the intruder, though both sustained injuries requiring 33 and 31 days of treatment respectively. Prosecutors emphasized that the defendant has shown no remorse, denied the crime despite carrying a weapon, and caused severe mental and physical trauma to the victims, while Mr. A even countersued Nana for attempted murder from prison, though police dismissed this as justifiable self-defense.
SPEAKER_02A controversial rapper known as Richie Egee has had his concert cancelled just five days before the scheduled May 23rd performance following public outcry over his mockery of late President Ro Muhyun. The Ro Muhyon Foundation sent an official letter to the concert organizers demanding an apology and hinted at filing for an injunction to stop the show. The controversy intensified when it was revealed that the concert date and ticket price of 52,300 one appeared deliberately connected to the anniversary of the former president's death. The venue, Yonam Space, issued a statement explaining they only knew it was a hip-hop group performance when signing the rental contract and have since strengthened their internal procedures to thoroughly review the nature and content of future events.
SPEAKER_00During the official press conference on May 19th at Palais des Festivals, Nutt explained that while initially planning a crime film, he pushed the fundamental questions about why humans commit crimes and violence to cosmic proportions, moving beyond the supernatural approach of his previous work, The Wailing. The film features Hollywood stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vicander, and Taylor Russell in brief but crucial roles as aliens, with Na hinting at a larger narrative package and expressing hope for future installments if opportunities arise. The cast underwent intensive preparation, with actors performing dangerous action sequences while imagining unknown creatures, and Young Ho-yun making her big screen debut after five to six months of pre-production training in firearms and vehicle stunts.
