The biographical film Michael about pop icon Michael Jackson has sparked a divide between critics and audiences despite massive box office success. The movie earned$423.92 million worldwide within 10 days of its North American release, setting a record for the highest opening weekend for a music biopic. However, critical reception has been notably cooler, with Rotten Tomatoes showing only 40% positive reviews from critics and a metacritic score of 38, while audience approval sits at an overwhelming 96% positive. The film, which focuses on Jackson's career from his Jackson 5 days through 1988, had to undergo 22 days of reshoots after legal settlement clauses forced the removal of scenes addressing 1993 child abuse allegations, leaving the dramatic arc centered primarily on his conflict with Father Joe Jackson and opening possibilities for a sequel to address the controversial later years.
