The film The King and the Man has surpassed 12 million admissions as of March 11th, far exceeding initial expectations in a challenging theatrical market. Producer Lim Unjung of OndaWorks revealed that the project began seven years ago with screenwriter Huang Sunggu facing multiple rejections before she left her previous company in 2023 to independently develop the script. She was drawn to the story's focus on common people rather than palace politics, seeing it as a fresh approach to historical drama that could expand the genre's limited target audience. The film's success has revitalized both the theater industry and local economies, with Yongwol County experiencing a seven-fold increase in tourism, while the production team plans to rework the controversial Tiger CGI effects in response to audience feedback. Until then, stay tuned to All Things Korean Entertainment, and we'll catch you tomorrow.
