W. Ice Hockey. Yale Names Joakim Flygh New Head Coach
Joakim Flygh, who has been to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last six seasons as an assistant coach at Harvard and Minnesota-Duluth, has been named Yale's head women's ice hockey coach. Yale Director of Athletics Tom Beckett made the announcement Wednesday. Flygh's nine-year career as an assistant coach has been marked by consistent success; teams he has coached for have a combined winning percentage of .701 (176-69-21) and he has been a part of six seasons of 20 or more wins.

M. Basketball. Northwestern's Coble To Skip Senior Season
-Kevin Coble, one of Northwestern's top players, has chosen to skip his senior season after sitting out with a broken left foot last year. The team's leading scorer and rebounder for three years, Coble was injured in a preseason practice and had surgery. In a statement, he says his rehabilitation "is most important," and he will continue to follow the schedule set by his surgeon. He says he's been told he will have a full recovery. Coble, who plans to graduate with a political science degree in December, announced his decision on Tuesday night. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 81 games and ranked 14th on the Wildcats' career scoring list with 1,203 points.

Baseball. Ball State Elevates Alex Marconi To Head Coach
Alex Marconi, who has spent the last five years as an assistant baseball coach at Ball State University, has been named the school's head baseball coach, according to Ball State athletics director Tom Collins.

Outdoor Track. North Dakota Coach Mike Grandall Steps Down After Three Decades
After 31 years, nine individual NCAA champions, 58 All-Americans and 29 academic All-Americans, University of North Dakota head men's track and field and cross country coach Mike Grandall announced his retirement and resignation on Tuesday.

M. Ice Hockey. Rand Pecknold Gets Extension At Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac University Director of Athletics Jack McDonald has announced that Men's Ice Hockey Head Coach Rand Pecknold has signed a contract extension through the 2014-15 season. Terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

Football. Richmond Reloads
The 2010 season marks a new beginning for Richmond as it opens a new on-campus stadium and turns the reins over to first-year head coach Latrell Scott. But despite new digs and a new leader, some things never change. Amy Farnum has more.

Tewaaraton Trophy winner and 2010 national champion Ned Crotty scored two goals to help send the U.S. back to the top of international lacrosse with a 12-10 win over Canada on Saturday. The title was the Americans' seventh.

W. Basketball. Ceal Barry To Serve as Chair of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Issues Committee
Ceal Barry, associate director of athletics at the University of Colorado, Boulder, will serve as chair of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Issues Committee during the 2010-11 academic year. The appointment was made by the committee and confirmed by the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet.
